YouTube announced a conversational video editing tool on Wednesday at its Made On YouTube event allowing creators to edit footage with natural language for long and short videos.
YouTuber Happy Kelli told the audience that a one-hour shoot can often require ten hours or more in video editing. She asked whether artificial intelligence could speed that process along in the edit without sacrificing any of her creative control.
In a chat interface, creators give the artificial intelligence natural language instructions on how to help them assemble and refine a video throughout the editing process.
In Happy Kelli's demonstration, she shared footage of herself dancing in different outfits and asked AI to select the best take. She then added music and simple transitions that matched the dance, showing how the tool follows a creator's conversational direction.
Happy Kelli said she can jump back into the editing timeline at any point and manually adjust any details whenever she wants even more creative control.
YouTube also announced new tools for YouTube Studio, the app creators use to manage, analyze, and grow their video channels. The updates arrived on Wednesday at the company's Made On YouTube annual event, alongside several other creator-focused products and services.
YouTube also expanded Ask Studio, its artificial intelligence question-and-answer feature, to both iOS and Android devices for creators managing their channels worldwide within the mobile app.
A draft-feedback feature uses artificial intelligence to review a creator's unpublished videos and suggest improvements to pacing, structure, and storytelling. YouTube is introducing a research feed that shows creators which content types perform well on the platform so they can respond.
The Studio app will now let creators generate thumbnails and titles based directly on a video's content and matched closely to their own overall personal style.
A new dynamic thumbnail feature can generate three options and show each one to a different segment of the audience. YouTube said creators have used its A/B testing feature to run more than forty million tests on titles and thumbnails.
Later this year, YouTube Studio will automatically monitor thumbnail performance over time and proactively change one option if it does not perform well with its audience.
Soon users will be able to test up to three video cuts to determine which opening hook works best for viewers. YouTube also said it is updating analytics to explain why videos perform as they do and offer advice on engagement.
The conversational editing feature will be available for both YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app in early 2027 for creators worldwide, according to the company.
The tool can also add text overlays, remove pauses in speech, and make helpful editing suggestions based on the ongoing conversation's context for individual creators and teams.
Happy Kelli said conversational editing turns editing into a literal conversation with an infinitely patient helper that edits with them. Some creators may gain time savings, while others may guard their individual editing style and resist ceding control to AI.
