Google Opens Preorders for AI Laptop Line

Google opened pre-orders Monday for its first Googlebook laptops, an AI-focused line starting at $899 that will reach the major United States retailers on October 4.

The devices will also ship on October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia, Google said. Five flagship models come from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with premium materials plus vivid sharp high-resolution OLED displays.

Googlebook OS blends Android, ChromeOS, and Gemini into a new integrated platform that is designed to work seamlessly with Android phones and the desktop Chrome browser.

The company bets Gemini's latest capabilities will persuade buyers to purchase a new laptop instead of using AI through desktop apps. Google says several unique tools include Magic Pointer, Create My Widget, Rambler dictation, and Cast My Apps for phone applications.

Each laptop also includes twelve months of Google AI Pro, providing 5TB of cloud storage and full Gemini Advanced tools for the new buyers, Google said.

Googlebook Targets Premium Market Beyond Chromebooks

The Googlebook is a clear premium bet against the MacBook Air and higher-end Windows laptops rather than cheaper traditional Chromebooks. Prices range from $899 for the Acer model to $1,299 for Lenovo, HP, and ASUS configurations, while Dell starts at $1,199.

Every model includes at least 16GB of RAM, a touchscreen, and a Glowbar on the lid, with up to ten years of automatic updates Google promised.

The new laptops use powerful advanced Intel and Qualcomm processors paired with dedicated neural processing units for local AI tasks. Google promises users up to fourteen hours of video playback and up to sixteen hours of web browsing battery life.

The launch range spans five sizes, with Acer as the entry point, Dell XPS as the thinnest model, and Lenovo currently offering the largest overall display.

Google's official headline features include Magic Pointer, Create My Widget, Cast My Apps, Continue On, and universal cross-device file search. Many deep phone-integration tools currently require Android 17, potentially limiting widespread adoption across Android's fragmented ecosystem and many older devices.

Googlebook Strategy Eyes Schools and Global Markets

Google positions the Googlebook as part of a strategic longer-term plan to gradually move its large school market toward Gemini AI and the premium Android laptops.

About fifty million Chromebooks remain in schools used by students and educators, Google has said, and many existing devices will still continue receiving ongoing official support.

The Acer model's entry-level $899 price is described as promotional limited-time pricing, so it may not hold indefinitely for buyers. The devices are sold through the Google Store, Best Buy, and other major online and physical retailers in several participating countries.

No United Arab Emirates pricing or availability was announced in this initial launch, so local buyers must wait for a regional Google Store or retailer listing.

The Googlebook launch also includes twelve months of Google AI Pro, plus three-month trials of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and CapCut. Google says 20,000 mobile and PC games will run on the platform, alongside developer tools like Antigravity and Linux support.
