Tilly Norwood is a generative AI "actress" created by London-based company Particle6, which also operates an AI talent division called Xiocoia. The character drew intense backlash when announced in October 2025, prompting criticism from many actors and industry observers across the industry.

SAG-AFTRA, the union representing performers in the United States, said Norwood is not an actress but a computer-generated character trained on performers' work without permission or compensation.

The interviews aimed to promote upcoming Misaligned, an all-AI comedy-drama about an AI that abandons guardrails and develops human desires. According to its IMDb page, the film is set to become the first movie to cast an AI "actress" as lead.

In an interview with The Guardian in March, Norwood's creator Eline Van der Velden said she still remained an advocate for AI despite receiving death threats.

AI character later appeared in Take The Lead, a March song arguing that AI is the future and not the enemy. Real-life actors including Melissa Barrera and Mara Wilson criticized the synthetic performer, calling the trend gross and disrespectful to living performers.

Particle6 CEO Eline Van der Velden told Deadline that the Cantonese switch was not a mistake but Tilly showing off her language skills as an autonomous character.

The incident renewed attention on Norwood, a computer-generated character whose creator first said talent agencies had shown interest in representing her. SAG-AFTRA also highlighted contractual requirements concerning the use of synthetic performers by signatory producers and said those rules must be followed.

When The New York Times feature writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner interviewed Norwood in May 2026, she called the bot "a real bitch" and questioned interviewing a computer.

Norwood's representatives have described Misaligned as a hybrid production still involving several human directors, writers, editors and many other crew. The film remains in early production with no announced release date, despite the media blitz promoting its nonexistent theatrical release.
